Youth Court Certification
In order to be member of the Utah Youth Court Association, each court must fill out an application and meet the data collection requirement. According to the Utah Youth Court Diversion Act, certified youth courts enjoy a variety of different benefits including, but not limited to, access to the UYCA information database, reduced fees for the UYCA summer youth conference, and further access to youth before they enter the Juvenile Court system.
Data Collection Requirement
In order to maintain legal certification with the Utah Youth Court State Advisory Board, all youth courts in the State of Utah are required to gather a standard data set. This standard data set records information about referred youth offenders as well as youth volunteers. The Utah Youth Court State Advisory Board and the Utah Youth Court Association will use this data to produce annual reports and to inform a longitudinal study on youth courts in Utah.
The 2015 calendar year is the first year that Utah's youth courts are required to gather this data. The Utah Youth Court Association is in the process of developing a statewide Youth Court Database that all youth courts can use to input and record data for all referred youth offenders and youth volunteers. In the meantime, youth courts can use the excel spreadsheet below to record the standard data set that the Utah Youth Court State Advisory Board requires for re-certification.
Youth courts are encouraged to use the "UYCA Data Collection Survey," to prompt families for most of the data we are required to collect. The referred youth survey, which can be downloaded below, does not have identifying information on it. Instead, each youth court will assign referred youth a unique case number. The case number should be filled in on the upper right hand corner of the survey before the survey is given to the referred youth's family. Each youth court can then input the data from the "UYCA Data Collection Survey" into the Airtable form located here.
Do not share identifying information on referred youth offenders or youth volunteers with anyone who has not been given legal authority to view that information. Once the data reporting cycle begins, the Utah Youth Court Association will send out specific instructions for submitting non-identifying data to the Utah Youth Court State Advisory Board.
